Barry's Story

2 1/2 yrs. ago I was diagnosed with an Arachnoid Cyst that sat on top of my pituitary gland, and wrapped itself around my optic chiasm.  I had passed out at work and had no other symptoms before this at 39 yrs. of age.  After doing an MRI they discovered that I needed to have surgery.

Since that time I have had 5 surgeries on my head in 11 months and 2 on my belly.  I have 2 shunts in my head, 1 which is in my 3rd. ventrical, and the other which is in my cyst, which is 2.6 cm.

Now they are adjusting the pressure in my brain and the cyst trying to find the right setting.  I have lost my short term memory which goes back about the last 7 yrs. or so.  During this whole process it has caused me to live with very bad headaches which seem to be behind both of my eyes.  I have not been able to drive or work since my surgeries.  My wife runs me to all of my appts. and therapy through the week and I spend the weekends at home during the daytime.  I am not allowed to be left alone at night time by myself because sometimes I still get confused as to what day it is or what to do if something were to happen.

This has caused me to have focal seizures, which is where I just go into a trance like state for several seconds.  It does not give me any warning before I have these seizure like symptons.

I would just like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you a little bit of my story.
