100+ other people know it's not "all in your head" Please join me in keeping it real.

My name is kevin and I was diagnosed with an arachnoid cysts at the age of around 8 years old. I am 34 and live in Chicago and work as a chef in a large hotel.

I went to summer school and on the first day of it i had a really bad headache and was sick to my stomach. I called my mother and she picked me up.

These flu like symptoms went on for a while and my mother took me to the doctor. He said it was just the flu, and told my mother to take me home and give me liquids. This went on for a while and my parents finally asked another doctor who was a neighbor what he thought, and he referred my parents to Children's Memorial Hospital where he knew a neurosurgeon. They did a cat scan and found that I had a arachnoid cyst the size of a golf ball and on my pituitary gland. They operated immediately.

I spent about a year in the hospital. They put a vp shunt in. If that had been that it would have been fine. However due to the fact that the cyst was on my pituitary gland it caused a lot of problems. I took growth hormone, cortisone, synthyroid, petresin, hcg, and testosterone throughout my life. As if that were not enough I have had to go back to the hospital for a number of shunt malfunctions. Even though I am still taking testosterone I am prone to hot flashes. That is my story.

Everything with me is fine for now.  I have not had to have surgery for about five years.  The doctors told me that sometimes a shunt will stabilize and not need further surgery, especially after you have reached your final height.  However, with my history in the past I know that its around the  corner.  I can't believe your doctor   never did endo work on you especially with a cyst on your pituitary.
